The pilot ladder is a vessel-specific boarding and disembarkation device designed exclusively for the safe transfer of pilots to and from ships. Classified as a type of marine ladder under marine outfitting equipment, it is also a mandatory piece of gear to meet the requirements of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS).

Its core characteristics and applications are as follows:

1.Structural Features

The ladder frame uses high-strength synthetic fiber ropes or steel wire ropes as the load-bearing structure, paired with non-slip wooden or rubber treads. Lightweight and flexible overall, it can adapt to the rolling and swaying of ships on the water surface. The top of the ladder is equipped with dedicated hooks and fixing devices to securely attach to the designated positions on the ship's side.

2.Application Scenarios

It is mainly used for pilots to board ships when vessels are at anchor or moored in ports or anchorages, to assist in maneuvering ships for berthing and unberthing operations. Some models can be used in conjunction with pilot hoists to enhance the safety of boarding and disembarkation operations under rough sea conditions.
